Venice`s Carnival began in the 11th century, and the wearing of masks and costumes was well established by 1436, when mask makers or Mascereri were officially recognized with their own guild. The practice of wearing masks for disguise reached its peak in the 18th century when Venetians of different social classes used Carnevale as an excuse to mingle and, in some case, to find illicit adventures without fear of recognition or retribution. Dark Angel Resting on Moon

This statue, sculpted of cold-cast resin, presents a powerful image. Cradled in a black, crescent moon that is engraved with a woven, Celtic pattern, a dark angel leans back and rests in contemplation. With her large, black wings parting to either side of the moon she curls a knee to her chest and gazes out in contemplation, with deceptively innocent eyes that possess more than a hint of sorrow hiding all of her dark cares, worries and designs. Wearing a flowing black dress, her corset and sleeves are marked with spidery runes of power, marking her as a thing not to be trifled with. Angel and Dragon Table Calendar

Standing 6 1/2" tall and 4 1/2" wide this clever statue serves a double purpose; as an adorable table calendar and as a lovely desk decoration in its own right. Crafted to resemble a beautiful angel kneeling upon an altar-top, the calendar itself is composed of two interchangeable blocks marked with the month and date, and formed into the likeness of twin stone tablets that settle within interior of the altar. Decorated with the crests of two crimson dragons upon each flank, the angel herself clutches a staff topped with a crystal ball, and a tattered green gown above swirling crimson tattoos and out-swept black wings. This whole piece is formed out of durable hand-painted cold cast resin.
